  • Education: The WHO recipe for back to school: one meter between desks, disinfect daily and take the temperature

France has had to close 70 primary schools of the more than 40,000 reopened in the first week of de-escalation due to the detection of coronavirus cases , as indicated by Education Minister Jean-Michel Blanquer on Monday , who insisted that it is "a very low percentage".

In the city of Sens , in the center of the country alone, 25 schools were closed because there was "one case of COVID-19" in an adult.

"There is a strict sanitary protocol " and that possibility was already contemplated, the minister told reporters during a visit to one of the secondary schools that are receiving students again this week in the department of Eure (north).

The minister has pointed out that sometimes they are reproached for being too cautious and in others for not being enough: "We are very vigilant that there is the least possible risk .

This Monday, 185,000 students from two levels of secondary school returned to French schools in the departments that are in green, that is, in a less committed epidemic situation.

Blanquer has said to hope that the sanitary conditions will allow "to go further" and also give classes before the summer to students of those same levels in the departments in red, which cover four regions of the north and the northeast, including that of Paris.

That will be determined at the end of the month, depending on the sanitary conditions at that time. Also then a decision will be made about the eventual return of students from high schools.

Mandatory masks for high school students

High school students, unlike elementary school students, have to wear a mask in class and can only remove it to eat.

In primary school, only 30% of students have returned to face-to-face classes, while 70% continue to follow distance courses, as during the period of confinement, which in France has been progressively rising since May 11.

The country has exceeded 28,100 deaths with COVID-19 and there are still more than 19,300 people hospitalized, of which about 2,100 are in intensive care units.
