Europeans do not all approach the economic and health crisis linked to Covid-19 in the same way. Thus, the morale of the Italians is lower than that of the French and the British, according to a BVA poll for Europe 1 and Orange. But our compatriots are more pessimistic than our European neighbors.

EXCLUSIVE

The coronavirus pandemic is lastingly affecting Europeans. The morale of Italians is thus at a low level, according to an exclusive survey carried out by BVA for Europe 1 and Orange, the results of which were announced on Tuesday. The French, they are more numerous to estimate that the worst of the crisis is to come, compared to our transalpine and British neighbors. Our compatriots also have less confidence in their government, with a strong distrust of 63%.

Italians have no morale

Italy, with more than 32,000 dead, has paid a heavy price for the pandemic, with confinement started earlier than in the rest of Europe. Italians are therefore struggling to regain morale, with a score of 5.7 out of 10 (0 being the lowest, 10 the maximum), which has not changed for several weeks, notes the BVA institute.

The morale of the French, estimated at 6.5 out of 10, has improved since the start of deconfinement on May 11. That of the British is even higher, with a score of 6.7 out of 10. BVA explains this better score across the Channel "because, although the confinement has not been lifted, its conditions are more flexible there than it have been in France and Italy. "

The French are pessimistic for the future…

The French, faithful to the image of Epinal, are on the other hand more pessimistic for the future than their neighbors. 38% of our compatriots believe that the worst is yet to come, against 35% of the British and 21% of the Italians. In Italy, BVA notes however that "this result has considerably and paradoxically deteriorated since the previous measurement at the end of March (-17 points)".

… And do not trust their government

Another stereotype widespread and confirmed by this poll: the French have little confidence in their rulers. Indeed, 63% do not trust the government to manage the crisis, against 53% of the British. And this, while the United Kingdom is the country affected in Europe, with nearly 35,000 dead, against more than 28,000 in France.
