The North American Football League (MLS) announced on Tuesday the cancellation of its All-Star Game 2020 and two other competitions involving some of its franchises and Mexican championship clubs, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The All-Star Game was to pit a compound of MLS players against another of Mexican Liga players on July 29 in Los Angeles.

The North American championship, suspended for more than two months due to the Covid-19 pandemic, is working on a resumption of its season without having yet decided on its timing or its formula.

Reason why its leaders chose to cancel the All-Star Game, whose next edition in 2021 will still take place in Los Angeles. The league has nevertheless specified that it is studying the candidacies of three cities to host the event in 2022.

Meanwhile, MLS has also canceled the second edition of the League Cup, a tournament created last year between the best teams in MLS and Liga MX. The 2020 edition was to take place between July and September.

The Campeones Cup, which pits the MLS champion against the Liga MX champion, has also been canceled. The match was scheduled to take place on August 12 in Seattle, between the Sounders and an opponent who has yet to be named, as the coronavirus also disrupted the Mexican championship.
