They escaped the worst. The prefect of the North has taken sanctions against two restaurants located near the citadel of Lille. Groups of people had been seen outside these establishments, which notably offered take-away alcohol during the first weekend of deconfinement.

Saturday, the weather was nice in Lille. The opportunity for many residents to take advantage of an outing to the citadel, open for walks with prefectural dispensation. On avenue Léon-Jouhaux, which runs along the Deûle, two establishments were open for take-out: Corfu and Guinguette de la Marine. These bars-restaurants obviously served drinks, alcoholic or not, in plastic cups that day, confirmed Lille City Hall 20 minutes away . A boon for many people who bought their drinks to taste them a few meters away, sitting on the banks of the Deûle.

The mayor wanted administrative closings

Except that in these times of coronavirus, such practices did not ensure the social distancing necessary to avoid a rebound in the epidemic. On Saturday, the municipal police therefore drew up several reports of offenses against the two establishments, in particular for the absence of a poster mentioning barrier gestures or the non-organization of queues.

The mayor of Lille had reacted strongly, asking the prefect, on the basis of the minutes drawn up, to issue administrative closure orders for the two establishments. A request to which the prefecture has only partially responded.

Indeed, this Monday morning, the prefect of the North issued a decree prohibiting the sale of take-away alcohol on avenue Léon-Jouhaux. Concretely, this means that Courfou and La Guinguette can continue their take-out sales activity excluding alcoholic beverages. But this decree is also a warning for the future. The prefect recalls that he can "order the closure of establishments open to the public who do not implement the obligations applicable to them" within the framework of the provisions against coronavirus.
