May 18, 2020 Maestro Riccardo Muti, with the conduct of Giuseppe Verdi's Aida in concert form, will open in two extraordinary evenings, on June 19 and 22, 2021, the 2021 Festival of the Arena di Verona, which will return after the stop for the coronavirus emergency.

The concert falls on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Aida's first performance at the Cairo Opera in 1871. The superintendent and artistic director of the Arena Foundation, Cecilia Gasdia, announces it.

In the cast of the concert as soloists there will be Sonya Yoncheva (Aida), Francesco Meli (Radames), Anita Rachvelishvili (Amneris), Luca Salsi (Amonasro), Roberto Tagliavini (Il Re) and Riccardo Zanellato (Ramfis).

"The presence of Maestro Riccardo Muti - underlines Gasdia - 41 years after his only presence in the Veronese amphitheater in a rare, unforgettable performance of Giuseppe Verdi's Requiem Mass, is the highest way to pay homage to this masterpiece, on the 120th anniversary of Verdi's death, with two evenings that will become a milestone for the Arena of Verona and its public ".
