May 17, 2020 "Discriminations based on sexual orientation constitute a violation of the principle of equality and harm the human rights necessary for the full development of the human personality which, on the other hand, are specifically protected in our Constitution and in the international order. It is the task of the state to guarantee the promotion of the individual not only as an individual, but also in interpersonal and emotional relationships. In order for this to be possible, everyone must be put in a position to express their personality and to have guaranteed the foundations for building self-respect ". This is the statement issued by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, on the occasion of the National Day against homophobia that is celebrated today.

"The anniversary of May 17, observes the President, was chosen, internationally, to promote the fight against discrimination, the fight against prejudices and the promotion of knowledge regarding all those phenomena that, through homophobia, transphobia and biphobia, violating human dignity ".
"The ability of emancipation and autonomy of people, Mattarella concludes, is strictly connected to the attention, respect and equal treatment that is received from others. Working for a free and mature society, based on respect for rights and enhancement of people, means not allowing one's identity or sexual orientation to be a reason for aggression, stigmatization, prejudicial treatment, derision as well as discrimination in work and in social life ".

The minister of the Bonetti family

"Thirty years have passed since WHO eliminated homosexuality from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. An important step, but the way to go to guarantee equal dignity and equal rights for each and each it's still long. " The Minister of the Family, Elena Bonetti, writes it on Facebook. "For this reason - he recalls - I have reconstituted the LGBT + Association Table, 65 associations that will meet at the Department for Equal Opportunities on May 26th. There will not be a real restart of our country if we do not commit to removing all obstacles that in fact prevent us from guaranteeing equal rights for each and every one of us. It is a fundamental direction, concludes Minister Bonetti, a challenge to be overcome to ensure the recognition of full equality for all citizens "

Mara Carfagna vice-president of the Chamber and deputy of Forza Italia
Discriminating LGBT people for who they are or for whom they love is unworthy for a country like Italy, which has between its founding principles are those of equality and non-discrimination provided for in article 3 of the Constitution. These are the words of Mara Carfagna vice-president of the Chamber and deputy of Forza Italia. Raising awareness is important: the first campaign against homophobia carried out by an Italian government dates back to 2009 and bears my signature as Minister for Equal Opportunities. On that occasion Carfagna continues, funds were allocated for specific projects, an advertising spot was broadcast and we dealt with the topic in schools. Informing is not enough: at the end of February I filed a bill to add to the aggravating circumstances that I had committed a crime on grounds of discrimination. The approval of this law responds to the security need of millions of our fellow citizens, who ask to be protected by the state. A liberal center-right, concludes Mara Carfagna, modern and European cannot leave the defense of personal freedoms only to the left ".
