The Israeli Foreign Ministry announced that a Chinese ambassador to Israel was found dead at his home north of Tel Aviv on Sunday. The Israeli police were allowed to enter the embassy, and indicated that there were no criminal effects (initial report).
Du Wei, 58, was appointed ambassador in February in the midst of a coronavirus, and previously served as Chinese envoy to Ukraine.
Du Wei left behind a wife and son, who are not in Israel.
The local media quoted officials of the emergency services, that preliminary indications showed that Ambassador de died during his sleep, and that the causes of death are natural.
The Israeli daily, Ha'aretz, reported that reports indicated that employees found Wei dead in his bed, and that there were no signs of physical violence.
According to the medics, the cause of death appears to be due to a heart problem.
Israel has good relations with China. The ambassador's death comes just two days after he condemned the statements of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who was visiting the country and denounced Chinese investment in Israel, and accused China of hiding information about the emerging Corona virus.
