A firefighters' river shuttle on the banks of the Rh? Ne? Lyon, June 27, 2011. CYRIL VILLEMAIN / 20 MINUTES - C. VILLEMAIN / 20 MINUTES

The body of a man was recovered this Sunday morning in the waters of the Rhône in Lyon. It was discovered near a barge near the Lafayette bridge, in the 6th arrondissement. It is most certainly that of a 30-year-old man whose disappearance had been reported the previous evening after a bet.

At the time of the events, the victim was with his brother on the bridge of the College when, intoxicated, they would have challenged themselves to jump into the river to swim to one of the piers of the bridge. The 30-year-old would have undressed, thrown into the water but would have sank straight after a few meters, reports Le Progrès .

The search had started on Saturday evening. But after two hours, the firefighters who did not have precise information and who could no longer reach the brother, stopped the operation. Before probing the waters of the Rhône again this Sunday morning.
