Funds for program participants, as noted in the grant description, will be allocated through the United States Embassy in Podgorica.

“The Embassy (USA. - RT ) plans to support projects and initiatives that enhance the freedom of the media and professional standards of journalism in Montenegro by awarding grants ranging from $ 30 thousand to $ 70 thousand,” the text says.

Media, civil society organizations and NGOs established in Montenegro can apply for the competition.

At the same time, the listed institutions must meet “high professional standards in their journalistic or civic activities, have a reliable reputation and a successful track record”.

As noted in the document, it is also planned to implement projects to develop “media literacy and critical thinking” of citizens, including for them to acquire the ability to recognize “misinformation”.

In addition, the implementation of projects aimed at supporting the coverage of the coronavirus pandemic is provided. Work in this area will be centered around “debunking false information and conspiracy theories related to the crisis.”

It is also possible to promote journalistic investigations supporting the reforms “necessary for the continuation of the Euro-Atlantic integration of Montenegro”.

Earlier it was reported about the plans of the State Department to allocate $ 140 thousand to help the Balkan states in the fight against "misinformation", including "Russian".

The purpose of the corresponding program, as specified, was to strengthen public confidence in the free press and democratic institutions.
