The video has been made using open research data and shows what it looks like when the new coronavirus Sars-coV-2 attacks the body's cells. The animation should make it easier for us to understand how the virus works.

- This reality we only have access to through measuring instruments and by creating visualizations or images, says Andreas Göransson, who is a researcher at the Visualization Center and who has helped create the animation.

Impossible to see with the naked eye

The particles of the coronavirus are much smaller than the body's own cells. They are even so small that they have no color. To create the animation, data from an electron microscope was used and then the image was colored in the computer.

In addition, other particles and molecules have been removed to make the image as clear as possible.

- But the structure and shape of this, that's about the way it looks, says Andreas Göransson.

Soap dissolves the virus

One of the most effective weapons against the corona virus is to wash your hands frequently. Namely, on the outside of the virus particle is a shell of fat. When we wash with soap, the fat dissolves and the virus breaks.

- Just like washing the frying pan and the fat dissolves, explains Andreas Göransson.
