The British medical journal The Lancet called on American voters on Friday to elect a new president who would stop using "party politics" to direct public health.

In an acrimonious and unusual editorial, the Lancet, one of the world's leading medical journals, described the US administration's response to the Corona virus epidemic as "inconsistent and inconsistent."

And the editorial said, "Americans should put a president in the White House in January 2021, who understands that public health should not be guided by partisan politics."

This stance came as US President Donald Trump unveiled a widespread US government effort to rapidly develop a new virus vaccine by the end of the year.

"The administration is obsessed with magic vaccines, new drugs, or the hope that the virus will simply disappear," the editorial said, adding that there should be a focus on "basic general principles" such as testing and tracking.
