DJ star Bob Sinclar wanted to take advantage of confinement to immerse himself in his 35,000 vinyls. He finally found himself animating a virtual boom every day that made millions of confined people dance.

"Monday, when it stopped I had the baby blues", tells AFP the world famous French DJ. "Okay, I can get up a little later and not have a blast for ten hours on the screen, but when 2:00 p.m. arrived (the time for his daily shows, editor's note) I said to myself + where are they +? Actually, this is where containment starts a little for me. "

True containment had begun for him in disbelief. "When someone tells me that, I say to myself + it's not possible, I can't, I'm going to die of boredom +. After I said to myself + it's the opportunity to punctuate my day, to be creative and to show who I am + ", remembers Christophe Le Friant of his real name, the craftsman of the planetary tubes" Gym Tonic "(1998)" World, Hold On "(2006) or" Love Generation "(2005).

For 55 days, millions of people around the world took advantage daily of the communicative good humor of the DJ with long hair, who leaps everywhere on his leopard carpet in the middle of his manga figurines.

At the turntables, Bob Sinclar jokes, wishes birthdays to those who request it, dedicates pieces to the caregivers.

"We lived a moment of sharing, of suffering, a moment when people wanted to hang on to something, wanted to punctuate their day with new small meetings", says the Parisian DJ who gathered up to 6 million participants March 19 for a funk session.

- "Musically frustrated" -

Very far from his universe of house called "commercial", Bob Sinclar plunged back for each of his sessions in the trunk with memories of his youth and his beginnings: "The universe of free radios, TV shows + Les enfants du Rock + (1982-1988) or + Sex Machine + (1982-1985), the first samplers, the first computers, all this explosion of music that shaped me ".

"What I actually proposed was to clean people's ears, to go from Dynasty (mythical group of R'n'B, editor's note) to NTM", summarizes the one who lives "with thousands and thousands of pieces "in the head.

"After 55 days I was a bit roasted. I had to digitize around twenty vinyls a day, to re-edit and remaster them, it took me easy 14 hours a day," said the 51-year-old DJ.

"It was intense but magnificent, I love working like that, like crazy, in the extreme", summarizes the DJ at "more than 100 dates per year" .... none of which are certain in the immediate future.

If many musicians were keen to maintain a link with their audience by performing live from their living room, Bob Sinclar found himself in a social role as an ambassador of containment which carried him beyond his usual audience, a decisive experience according to him.

"For the first time, I felt free to be my own artistic director, to say + here I do what I want +", he explains.

"People have known me with + Love Generation +, + World, Hold On + and when you make big hits, people associate you with these hits. And lo and behold, you end up in a slightly golden cage and you are ask to play that music, and that's what I do in clubs, but I was at a point in my career where I was starting to be a little bit frustrated musically. So here I am on my little cloud " .
