The PP president, Pablo Casado, and the leader of Ciudadanos, Inés Arrimadas, held a videoconference today to review the relationship between the two parties, which govern four autonomous communities and dozens of municipalities. In full turbulence between the members of both formations in the Government of the Community of Madrid, the national leaders have wanted to stage a total normality in their relations.

Both "have made a very positive balance and have described as successful the formulas of the autonomous and municipal coalition governments," according to a joint statement. They wanted to highlight "the capacity for socio-economic management and response" to the pandemic, "anticipating in many cases the actions of the Government of Spain", and they have recognized "that the agreements that allowed these governments to be configured are being fulfilled in all regions and municipalities ".

That is, they have taken iron from the disagreement between the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso (PP), and the vice president, Ignacio Aguado (Cs), in recent days. The tension has translated into a sort of cold war on account of the information about Ayuso's stay in an aparthotel and the "error" of publishing a contract that was not such in the name of the company that owns that property, Room Mate.

Accompanied by the secretary general of the PP, Teodoro García Egea; the general secretary of Cs, Marina Bravo; and the deputy secretary general of Citizens, Carlos Cuadrado, the PP and Cs presidents have discussed issues such as the current situation of health and socio-economic crisis caused by the Covid pandemic19. "Both formations agree on the need for the Government of Spain to park improvisations and give a sensible and moderate response to the crisis," they assured.

Arrimadas and Casado "have reaffirmed the agreement for the defense of constitutionalism in the Basque Country, by which they agreed to jointly attend the elections that, predictably, will be held shortly in the autonomous community," added the statement. "Both formations will work together so that a single vote is not lost in the Basque Country from those who defend freedom, equality and union against nationalism. The two parties hope that the optimal health and safety conditions will occur when the elections ", they explain.

In her Twitter account, the president of Cs has summarized that "it has been a very cordial meeting where we have analyzed the evolution of the Coronavirus pandemic, shared the success of the Cs-PP governments and reaffirmed the constitutional alliance for the Basque elections" .

"We are lowering taxes, improving health, education, social services, we are reactivating the economy," the PP president had already said this afternoon. "And we think that those agreements that are solid will be for the entire legislature, they are the best guarantee for such difficult moments of fighting the coronavirus," he added, before commenting that their Arrimadas relationship "is excellent."
