The phenomenon has grown in recent weeks in Loire-Atlantique, and the investigation seemed to be stalled. After the theft of nearly 300 sheep in the department since the start of the year, the gendarmes arrested three men aged 16, 26 and 47, mid-week. The operation took place on Tuesday on a Roma camp located in Saint-Herblain near Nantes: according to the gendarmes, four sheep were discovered in a disused garage adjoining the premises. The animals have been returned to their owner.

One year in prison

Thursday, one of the suspects was tried in an immediate appearance, during which he admitted being the author of several flights of lambs and pigs, reports Ouest-France . He was sentenced to one year in prison and "is the subject of a notification of an obligation to leave French territory," say the gendarmes. His accomplice, a minor, was summoned to the children's court. A final man is to be tried later for concealment of theft.
