The drama took place in an apartment in the Montboucons district in Besançon. On Monday morning, a 27-year-old man was hit in the head by hatchet blows. He died Wednesday of his injuries, said the prosecutor's office which opened a criminal investigation for murder. The victim had been found tied to a radiator with sheets, seriously injured in the skull, said the prosecutor of Besançon, Etienne Manteaux.

The occupant of the apartment had himself called for help. He was charged and placed in pre-trial detention. According to the suspect's statements, "his apartment has been used for several months by drug dealers" and Sunday evening, "three men came to his house to party," said the prosecutor.

"Confused situation"

When he woke up on Monday, one of them was degrading the apartment furniture with a hatchet. He allegedly disarmed him and beat him on the head with the weapon. But the investigators are trying to understand why the victim was found tied with sheets to a radiator, continued the magistrate, stressing that "the situation is still confused".

Investigations are continuing to help understand the exact sequence of events. The alleged murderer and the victim were not known to the justice system.
