The Khaled Alkhateb International Memorial Awards was established in memory of the journalist Khaled al-Khatib, who collaborated with RT Arabic, who died in Syria. In 2020, the prize will be awarded for the third time.

The Khaled Al-Khatib International Prize is awarded in the categories “Best Work from the Conflict Zone: Long Video”, “Best Work from the Conflict Zone: Short Video”, “Best Work from the Conflict Zone: Text”.

In the first year of the award, it was attended by works in ten languages ​​from more than 20 countries.

The awards were awarded to representatives of Iraq and Ireland, who spoke about the situation in Iraq and Syria after the ousting of militants of the Islamic State terrorist organization *.

A journalist from Singapore became a laureate for reporting on the terrorist city of Maravi in ​​southern Philippines.

The jury included foreign and Russian journalists, including Irada Zeynalova and Evgeny Poddubny.

In 2019, works from 25 countries claimed victory. The winners were representatives of Russia, the USA, Italy and India, who spoke about the conflicts in Syria, Iraq and Libya.

The awarding ceremony was held as part of the RT Media TALK conference “In the conflict zone: risks and responsibilities of journalists”. It was attended by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, Russian President’s special envoy for digital and technological development Dmitry Peskov, Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of RT and MIA Russia Today, as well as Russian and foreign journalists.

The third prize laureates will be announced on July 30 - the anniversary of the death of 25-year-old al-Khatib.
