Finland now eases border controls

On March 18, the Finnish government restricted the possibility of crossing the Finnish border. First, no unauthorized persons were allowed into the country until mid-April. After that, the government tightened the cord further, and only persons who could certify that they had the necessary work were allowed to cross the border, such as health care personnel.

Some time ago, a debate about Finland's border controls sparked a debate when citizens could interpret it as not being allowed to leave or entering the country, despite the fact that it is even their right as an EU citizen. Following this discussion, more and more people have begun to cross the border between Haparanda and Torneå, according to the Northern Calvary Border Service, which promotes increased cross-border mobility through cooperation between authorities in Sweden, Norway and Finland.

But as of May 14, border checks will start to be relaxed again. For example, no one should have to justify that the work trip is necessary, according to Swedish Yle. Seasonal workers may also enter Finland to work. It is also allowed to meet close relatives for, for example, weddings.

According to the Nordkalottens Gränstjänst, doctors can also visit doctors and bank cases, and visit their properties and summer cottages on the Finnish side.
