On April 30, a total of 39 patients were treated in intensive care at Östergötland Hospital. That is the highest figure so far in the pandemic. But today, Thursday, only 17 patients are treated within IVA. Rickard Lundin, health care manager at Östergötland Region, says you see a decline. But according to him, it is not a place to relax.

- We cannot relax in society and start living as usual. It is important that we continue to adhere to the recommendations given. That's the best thing you can do to help us in the health care, he says.

No need to staff

However, the lower number of patients currently requiring intensive care has meant that they no longer need to staff as many intensive care centers as before.

- We are constantly following the events trend. On-site preparedness for both ordinary care and IVA sites has been slightly above the forecast that we now see. We can reduce the number of sites linked to covid-19 patients. But we have preparedness to be able to switch up if needed. It's really about not manned all the places. But the places and appliances required remain as such, says Rickard Lundin.

However, he wants to point out that the state of health care is far from calm.

- We still have 80 covid-19 patients being cared for. But this means that we can reduce the burden on the staff a little spruce, which also gives us a long-term view, says Rickard Lundin.
