Abu Dhabi Police have warned social media users not to post offensive videos, including behaviors that violate the public morals of society, stressing law enforcement, and holding those involved in such acts accountable.

Major Mohammed Al Darmaki, from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and Investigations, within the “Home-to-Home” awareness initiative implemented by the Abu Dhabi Police during the month of Ramadan, called on members of the public to take responsibility for media materials that are circulated through social media outlets and websites, and not to publish or re-post Publishing abusive clips that contain behaviors or phrases that affect the public morals of society, as the law punishes anyone who violates public morals, using social media means and websites.

During the recent period, some individuals were subjected to investigation and trial at the state level, against the background of describing them, through social media, as offensive words, and others were held accountable for publishing videos for the sake of humor and humor, as investigative authorities considered this behavior a crime punishable by law in The state, in addition, does not express the values ​​of tolerance that the Emirates community was brought up with.

And the Federal Supreme Court affirmed, in the causes of electronic insulting crimes, that "the crime of insulting the use of the information network applies in the matter of the Information Technology Crime Law."

Law No. 5 of 2012, on combating information technology crimes, stipulated penalties for perpetrators of crimes via the Internet and social media, including the publication of information related to terrorist activities or endangering the security of the state and its supreme interests at risk or affecting public order, incitement to provoke sedition and hatred, as well as electronic extortion crimes , Prostitution and pornography, as well as drugs, firearms, and more.

Affecting public morals

The Federal Prosecution for Information Technology Crime, in Abu Dhabi, is specialized in investigating, acting, and initiating criminal cases in crimes using the information network in violation of public morals.

Article (16) of the law stipulates that “he shall be punished with imprisonment for a period not exceeding two years, and a fine of no less than 250,000 dirhams, and not exceeding 500,000 dirhams, or one of these two penalties, whoever extorts or threatens another person to compel him to do an act or refrain About him, using an information network or an information technology tool, and the penalty shall be imprisonment for a period not exceeding 10 years if the threat of committing a crime or entrusting matters of dishonesty to honor or consideration ». A penalty of imprisonment and a fine of no less than 250,000 dirhams and not exceeding 500,000 dirhams, or one of the two penalties, from insulting others, or attributing to it an event that makes it subject to punishment or contempt, using an information network or an information technology tool.
