A hostage-taking took place at Rennes-Vezin prison (Ille-et-Vilaine) this Thursday at the end of the morning, we learned from the national prison union Force Ouvrière. An institutional doctor, then the deputy director, was detained by a 28-year-old inmate. According to the public prosecutor Philippe Astruc, the man was provided with a razor blade.

Alerted, the gendarmes and the regional intervention and security teams (ERIS) who operate in the prison environment managed to reason with the detainee. The latter went in the early afternoon and was placed in police custody. Incarcerated since July 2016 "for acts of attack on authority", the man would have justified his gesture by "an unmet request for transfer", according to the prosecutor. The detainee was released in December 2023, specifies Philippe Astruc.
