May 13, 2020 A former professional boxer and food merchant, originally from Naples and residing in Rome, has been arrested by the carabinieri on charges of usury. The handcuffs were taken when the moneylender was receiving 2 watches with a total value of 33 thousand euros from a dealer.
The investigations were directed by the prosecutor of the pool of the Rome prosecutor's office - Offenses against property, coordinated by the Assistant Prosecutor Lucia Lotti.

According to the reconstructions made the victim, an entrepreneur owner of some furniture stores, finding himself in economic difficulty, had received from 2018, at different times, a "firm" loan of the total sum of 250 thousand euros with a usurer rate of 10% to be paid monthly, for which he had already paid around 350 thousand euros as the sum of interest accrued over time.

The former boxer allegedly physically threatened the man to get the sums of money between loans and interest owed.
The goods of value delivered would have only partially covered the debt contracted, guaranteeing the victim to gain time in finding the liquidity necessary to pay off the loan.

Arrests also last February
The arrest follows an operation by the Carabinieri last February, which had already led to the arrest of two people caught in the flagrant crime of usury and extortion against another Roman businessman who runs a gym. One of the two arrested, a trader in the coffee sector, had been found in possession of a blank check worth 70 thousand euros, which was then linked to the current account of the furniture maker who, in turn, had given it to the creditor as a guarantee to allow him to settle the debt contracted.
Following the validation of the arrest, the judge for the preliminary investigations of the Capitoline Court applied the precautionary measure of house arrest with the electronic bracelet device for the former boxer.
