It was a drug search dog who responded when an empty truck from Spain was taken out for inspection in the harbor last Friday.

According to the driver, he was in Sweden to collect cargo here.

But after the dog marked, the Customs Inspector examined his vehicle.

"We were able to locate a hidden salary space in the truck and we could see that it contained narcotics in such quantities that it could be suspected of a serious crime," says Erik Friberg, Customs Chief of the Southern Region.

Grab the truck driver and one other person

A prosecutor was contacted and decided that the vehicle should be allowed into the country, at the same time as the police and the customs office together began an extensive operation.

- We closed again and followed to see what happened. On Monday, a strike was made at a town in Skåne. There we were able to take another person when the truck was unloaded and the drug was repacked, ”says Erik Friberg.

He does not want to comment on what the drugs are about or on what Scanian place the strike was done.

- I can't go out with it yet, considering that you ask questions in the case of the suspects.

"Still making great fittings"

The two men are now suspected of serious drug smuggling.

- It has a value of at least five million at street level, says Erik Friberg.

The number of drug attacks across the Sound has been halved during the corona pandemic. But according to Erik Friberg, it is mainly about minor turn-offs and not those that occur in freight traffic.

- We have had a number of seizures of this nature despite the pandemic. In these freight flows, smuggling looks similar to before and there we still make big fittings. The major impact has been on passenger traffic and the ability to move across borders, he says.
