The European Union on Wednesday called on member states to reopen their internal borders to facilitate tourism despite the continuing outbreak of the new Corona virus, which has killed more than 292,000 people in the world, and many countries, including Tunisia, have started to ease restrictions imposed.

The European Commission seeks to avoid flooding the main tourism sector in relation to the economy of the European Union, as it represents 10% of the gross domestic product and 12% of jobs, more in some southern European countries such as Italy and Spain, and they are among the countries most affected by the epidemic.

"It will not be an ordinary summer ... but if we all make efforts, we will not have to spend the summer stuck at home, or we will not lose the whole summer in relation to the tourism sector," Margaret Vijager, Vice-President of the European Commission, told a press conference in Brussels.

The European Commission calls for the reopening of the European Union's internal borders in a "coordinated" and "most harmonious" manner and in a "non-discriminatory" manner.

in the United States, the mayor of Washington, DC, Muriel Bawser, announced the extension of the decision to stay home in the city until June 8, explaining that the region needs more time to slow the spread of the Corona virus.

Bawser warned of the tragic results that could result from a impulsive decision to lift the restrictions, stressing that the decision to open the city will be based on scientific data and not economic pressure or pressure from neighboring state leaders.

Bowser added that easing restrictions before a vaccine or treatment is available for the virus will lead to a rise in infections and deaths.
