A 64-year-old man, active in a migrant aid association, was fatally assaulted Tuesday at his home in Bretteville (Manche). A suspect has been placed in police custody, said the Cherbourg prosecutor's office.

At the end of the morning, help came in the house of a man with a major head wound in this town near Cherbourg, who died some time later. "The people present, a group of about seven people, of foreign nationality, had arrested the individual and had detained this Afghan man who is likely to be the perpetrator of the attack," said Yves Le Clair, prosecutor. from Cherbourg.

Traces of blood on the suspect

The man killed was involved "in a migrant aid association," said the prosecutor. The suspect, 21, unknown to the justice system, had traces of blood on him and on his clothing. He would have hit the man with a blunt object, without there being any traces of struggle. He was taken into police custody and has yet to be heard by investigators, the same source said.

An autopsy must be performed in the coming days. The investigation was entrusted to the Research Section of the Caen Gendarmerie.
