During Wednesday evening, SVT's Mission Review will send a follow-up to the report "Arlagården". The investigation shows grave abuses at a dairy farm in Hälsingland. Now the editorial board has requested all injunctions where maladministration in animal care was discovered, from all county boards in the country, last year.

40 orders in Västerbotten

For Västerbotten, these are about 40 injunctions, where deficiencies are either recurring or so serious that the authority requires prompt action. These include remarks on dirt, poor feed, sick animals and lack of dry berths.

- When it is so serious that we suspect a crime has been committed, we report it to the prosecutor. Then it is up to them to investigate whether it is that way and whether they are prosecuting or not, says Annelie Grip Hansson, county veterinarian.

Seven suspected crimes

Seven of the abuses that were discovered at last year's supervision in Västerbotten have been prosecuted to the Prosecutor's Office, but the processing times at the courts are long. The county administrative board does not have to wait for prosecution to take action, but can decide on the care of animals themselves and also issue animal bans.

Last year, more than 20 animals were taken care of, in most cases they were dogs or cats, but a couple of cases also involved farming. Two people in Västerbotten were convicted in 2019 for violating the Animal Protection Act.
