CSIT Professional Union has filed a complaint with the Labor Inspectorate for the spike in infections from 18 ICU workers at the Gregorio Marañón Hospital during the first days of May. This increase coincides with the dates on which these professionals were distributed a series of masks not approved for hospital use and that did not comply with the indications contained in the protocols published by the Ministry of Health to care for Covid-19 patients.

Earlier this month, CSIT discovered a significant spike in infections among ICU fixed night shift workers who had previously (in the last days of April) had negative PCR, with serology demonstrating the absence of antibodies and, in Consequently, they lacked any immunity to the coronavirus. By repeating the tests, the result showed on this occasion, that the vast majority were positive for Covid-19.

Faced with this excessive increase in contagion among UCI staff, CSIT informed the management of the Hospital and its Occupational Risk Prevention service of the situation, so that they could take the appropriate measures. "Unfortunately, neither of the two instances reported has given any response, despite the fact that there are 18 infected workers, one of them has already been admitted to the ICU and the other is in the plant, " says CSIT.

Finally, CSIT has filed the corresponding complaint with the Labor Inspection detailing that during the time that elapsed between both tests, the hospital provided these professionals with a series of masks not approved for hospital use, which apparently did not follow the instructions contained in the protocols of the Ministry of Health for the management of patients who can generate aerosols, (among other techniques of high risk of contagion), and for which the use of masks is indicated, among others Epi, with a level of protection FFP3 -upper 98 % in its filtering capacity.

The union awaits the intervention of the Labor Inspectorate in the face of events that we consider to be extremely serious and that measures be adopted to prevent the increase in infections. It demands that the Hospital Management act in this regard "guaranteeing the safety and health of its workers and refining the corresponding responsibilities so that situations of this depth do not recur."
