• Direct, last minute coronavirus

The Andalusian Health Service (SAS) has received this Tuesday the resignation of the managing director of the Virgen Macarena University Hospital in Seville, Francisco Merino López, who alleges "family reasons" to adopt this decision.

Merino leaves his post after the SAS opened a reserved information last Sunday in this hospital center in order to analyze the causes of the high rate of professionals infected by the SARS-CoV-2 virus and after criticism from the staff board of the hospital.

Specifically, the SAS launched an investigation to identify factors associated with the hypothetical aggregation of cases, especially in the Emergency Department , as well as knowing the incidence of Covid-19 cases, calculating the incidence rate according to professional category, knowing the distribution temporo-spatial of the cases and identify the structural, organizational and functional characteristics that facilitate transmission.

In addition, the hospital staff board has demanded in recent days his immediate resignation due to the "dire management" that has taken place during the coronavirus pandemic.

Among the reasons alluded to by the staff meeting was "the lack of information" about the situation arising from the covid-19, as well as the lack of commitment on the part of the hospital management to participate "actively" in the measures adopted to address to the virus.

In addition, they added in a statement, the professionals of the hospital center suffered the "arrogant attitude and an excess of authority" on the part of the manager.

CONTAGIO DE SANITARIOS

The Minister of Health and Families of the Andalusian Government, Jesús Aguirre, has numbered almost 100 -between 98 and 99- the health professionals of said center currently in isolation, of whom "only nine are positive" for coronavirus.

As he explained this Tuesday, "it seems that around March 20-21" last "there was a diagnosis that was not correct to a medical staff and that was a contagion to a whole part" of these professionals.

The counselor has pointed out that in this time it has been trying to do all the professionals the PCR tests to "differentiate positives from negatives", isolating the former, and the autonomous administration is "trying to guarantee the safety of all workers ", as he wanted to make clear.

NEW MANAGER IN THE NEXT DAYS

The Andalusian Government has indicated in a note that in the next few days the appointment of a new manager will take place -until then, the medical management of the center assumes the management in functions- and that from the SAS the "dedication and commitment" is appreciated the until now manager.

Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Córdoba, Merino has been managing director of the Primary Care Area and manager of the Santa Bárbara de Puertollano Hospital, as well as manager of the Asisa clinic in Córdoba and the Integrated Area of Guadalajara . Prior to his appointment in Seville, he served as deputy manager of Hospital Assistance (Healthcare Organization and Organizational Innovation) of the Madrid Health Service (Sermas).
