Golfers Zach Johnson and Davis Love III have been named vice-captains of the US Ryder Cup team, which is set to take on the title holder in September, Captain Steve Stricker announced on Monday.

Johnson and Love join Jim Furyk, also initially appointed vice-captain, for this edition which will be contested on the Whistling Straits course in Kohler (Wisconsin) from September 25 to 27. Other names may be designated as the event approaches.

"With the Ryder Cup, it's important to surround yourself with quality people you can rely on who have the best interests of the team in mind," said Stricker.

Johnson, winner of the Augusta Masters 2007 and the British Open 2015, competed in five American Ryder Cups and was vice-captain of the American team which lost to Europe in France in 2018.

"It is important to defend" our territory "and doing so on behalf of Steve - in the state where he is from - is a great opportunity for our team to send a message," said Zach Johnson.

Love, winner of the PGA Championship in 1997, was twice captain of the American team, defeated in 2012 and winner in 2016.
