Warning of Anthony Fauci, central figure of the White House crisis cell on the coronavirus, before the Senate. The director of the Institute of Infectious Diseases has warned elected officials that lifting the containment measures too quickly could worsen the epidemic. From our correspondent in Washington,

Anthony Fauci testifies from his home. His words are clear, precise. The doctor does not hesitate to confide the uncertainties of the scientific community on the disease. And when asked what he thinks of the lifting of containment measures decided by many governors, he replies: "  My concern is that states, cities or regions do not strictly follow the recommendations we have formulated because I think if this happens there will be a real risk of setting off an uncontrollable epidemic, which will bring us back not only to unnecessary death and suffering that we could avoid, but also to the quest for an economic reboot .  "

As the United States crosses the threshold of 82,000 dead , Dr. Fauci warns, "  The death toll is probably higher than that. I don't know how much, but it is certainly higher.  "

An intervention that contrasts with the optimism of the White House. Since the end of April, the American president has insisted that the priority is to revive economic activity, and that this can take place in complete safety.
