The domino effect. Sunday and Monday, an episode of strong winds hit the North. The emergency services of the department carried out almost 150 interventions, in particular for falling materials or trees on the public highway. The most impressive development took place at Croix, near Lille, on Monday morning.
The firefighters were called at around 9:30 am Monday, rue Paul-Langevin, in Croix. It was an impressive tree, about 12 m high, which had not withstood the onslaught of the wind. The tree, located in the park of a residence, lay on the brick wall before ending up across the street.
Nine vehicles buried under the rubble
Under the weight of the tree, the wall in turn collapsed over fifty meters, burying 9 vehicles parked on public roads with its bricks. The most damaged car was a Mini which was literally run over by the tree and the wall.
A cynotechnical team carried out a reconnaissance to find possible people buried under the rubble. In the end, there were no injuries. In addition, several dwellings had to be evacuated during the intervention.
