“Glaring cases of insult”: materials about attempts to desecrate the memory of the participants of the “Immortal Regiment” will be transferred to the UK

On Tuesday, May 12, a news conference was held at the Russia Today MIA dedicated to the Immortal Regiment Online project, which was dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The details of its implementation were described by the organizers of the online procession.

They noted that the action was very popular - about 3 million applications were received. The procession is broadcast on the website of the Immortal Regiment of Russia and the International Immortal Regiment, in the social networks VKontakte and Odnoklassniki, as well as in the online cinema Okko. More than 12.5 million people have already watched it.

“This is a serious and important achievement, which shows how important it is for people on Victory Day to pay tribute to their grandfathers and great-grandfathers who did not spare themselves for the sake of our peaceful future. Our online project was organized in a short time and during this time almost 3 million people from all over the world filled out questionnaires. Many users filled out not one or even two questionnaires so that all their relatives who contributed to the Great Victory walked into the ranks of the Immortal Regiment. I’ll especially emphasize that the broadcast will go until the last uploaded photo, ”said Elena Tsunaeva, co-chair of the central headquarters of the all-Russian public movement Immortal Regiment of Russia.

Meanwhile, unidentified persons attempted to desecrate the memory of Soviet soldiers who died in the war.

“During the moderation, the volunteers recorded glaring cases of insulting the feat of the Soviet people. So, instead of photos of veterans of World War II, some users sent images of cartoon characters and, worst of all, ideologists, leaders and officers of Nazi Germany. Such requests were blocked by volunteers and professional historians, ”said Olga Amelchenkova, chairman of the central headquarters of the All-Russian public movement“ Victory Volunteers ”.

In turn, the head of the executive committee of the all-Russian public movement “Immortal Regiment of Russia” Artyom Khutorskoy noted that specialists were able to determine the IP addresses from which attempts were made to download profiles with photos of Nazis and war criminals.

“We will not leave unpunished these attempts to overshadow the celebration of the Great Victory on the day of its 75th anniversary and we transfer all the materials we collected to the Investigative Committee to organize a procedural audit,” he said.

Hacker attacks

In addition, the online platform on which the action "Immortal Regiment Online" was organized, was attacked by hackers, during which 646 unique ip-addresses were used. Of the servers participating in the attacks, 64% were in Europe, including Ukraine, 27% in North America and 3% in Asia. There were also attacks from the territory of Russia.

“It was especially blasphemous on the part of the attackers to try to disable the page of the Immortal Regiment online on a holy date - May 9. Over 9 million requests to the site were made, the attack power was 18,500 requests per second. As a result of these actions, the processor capacities of the virtual server were used up - the site was in danger of being disconnected by the hosting. Access to the site turned out to be significantly more difficult for users, ”Tsunaeva explained.

Meanwhile, the security service managed to arrange the process in such a way that the hackers were not able to interfere with the online procession.

Hacker attacks on the platform of the "Immortal Regiment" - this is part of an attempt to falsify the story. This opinion was expressed by the First Deputy Secretary of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Bocharov. He also believes that attention to the action by hackers also testifies to its popularity and importance.

“Those who are trying to rewrite the history of their ancestors are afraid of the fallen - this is their misfortune in the first place. I’m just sorry for these people, there’s nothing to talk about with them, ”TASS quoted him.

He also characterized hackers who attacked. According to him, these people have only one value in their life - money.

Recall that the processions of the “Immortal Regiment” in memory of the participants of the Great Patriotic War have been held in Russia and the world since 2011. This year, in connection with the pandemic of the coronavirus infection COVID-19, the campaign switched to the online format. Meanwhile, on May 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin once again assured that the participants in these commemorative actions will certainly pass along Red Square.
