Not applicable during the entire confinement period, the parking meters resume service in Montpellier. - Jérôme Diesnis / Maxele Presse Agency

Parking had become free on the public road in Montpellier to avoid excessive exits of residents. But also those of the agents responsible for the verbalization, in order to limit the spread of the Covid-19. Since May 11, the day of deconfinement, parking (like public transport) becomes profitable again in the streets of the Hérault prefecture. Parking in Montpellier is the subject of a public service delegation entrusted to TaM.

Other cities in Occitania have not adopted the same strategy. In Perpignan, on-street parking lots remain free until the end of the month. In Nîmes, the town hall has chosen an alternative mode: two hours of parking are free daily.

This measure was adopted to help businesses in the downtown area, which were very affected by the containment measures applied to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. During the confinement, the town hall estimated the potential financial loss at 430,000 euros.
