Haiti: coronavirus epidemic now affects the entire territory

Haiti is now facing the epidemic of new coronavirus across its territory. The southwestern tip of the country registered its first cases on Monday and health authorities are trying to convince residents to respect barrier gestures to reduce the spread. According to the latest assessment, Haiti has so far identified only 182 cases, of which 15 people have died.

La Grand'Anse is the last of ten departments in Haiti to have identified people infected with the Covid-19 virus. By publishing the latest results from the national laboratory, the Ministry of Health indicated that two of the 31 new cases came from this department located at the southwestern tip of Haiti.

Logically, the majority of patients are concentrated in the metropolitan area of ​​Port-au-Prince which is the most densely populated region of the country. What is worrying is that among the last deaths caused by the epidemic was a three-year-old child who, according to doctors, had no cough or fever.

Recalling that we do not know everything about this new virus, the health authorities urge the population to respect the precautionary principles. Wearing a mask was declared compulsory in all public places in Haiti as of Monday, May 11, but in the streets of the capital, many passers-by and users of public transport still have no protection.
