A nurse working at a New York hospital is accused of fraudulently using a credit card belonging to a patient at the Covid-19 facility. Anthony Catapano, 70, was admitted to Staten Island University Hospital on April 4 after contracting the coronavirus before dying on April 12, CNN said on Saturday.

When her daughter Tara received her father's credit card statement, she found that her father had been used to pay for gas and groceries on April 9. However, Anthony Catapano was "in the hospital, struggling to stay alive," she denounces, adding that his father used to pay his gasoline in cash.

Nurse could be fired

"I was in shock, I couldn't believe it," said the American. I knew that it could only be an employee of the hospital since visits were prohibited. CCTV footage from a supermarket revealed that the suspicious purchases were made by nurse Danielle Conti, 43.

"I would like to know why she took advantage of my father while he was on his deathbed," says Tara Catapano. The glasses, cell phone, chargers, photos and liquid from Anthony Catapano's wallet have also disappeared. However, there is no evidence that they were stolen.

Danielle Conti will appear before a Staten Island judge next September. She will answer charges of "aggravated theft", "simple theft" and "criminal detention of stolen property". The nurse was temporarily suspended from her position, and hospital management said she was at risk of being fired.
