The patient had no pneumonia at admission and was admitted to a general isolation ward. On March 28, he was transferred to the intensive care ward for isolation. He was treated with ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, commonly known as "artificial lung"). He subsequently suffered multiple organ failures on May 10. Day passed away. His wife became ill on the same day after returning to Taiwan and was discharged on April 11.
