The atmosphere was rather festive this Sunday, May 10 at noon in the Malian village of Koumaïra. Amadou Kolossi, the mayor of this locality located in the Timbuktu region, was surrounded by parents, elected officials, all who came to greet him and celebrate his release.

According to witnesses, he is doing well. Early this morning, He was taken home by men on motorcycles. These men belong to an armed group of presumed jihadists who kidnapped him in early April when he went to negotiate the release of Soumaïla Cissé, leader of the Malian opposition, himself kidnapped a few days earlier.

I was treated well during my detention,  " said the city councilor to his relatives. This release gives hope to many on the fate of Soumaïla Cissé. His relatives and the Malian government via specialized services are doing everything to obtain his release. Intermediaries reassure but without giving too many details. "The  less we talk about it, the more efficient we are  ," comments a source close to the matter.
