DRC: too many political communicators still work as journalists, according to the CSAC

In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the Superior council of audio-visual and the communication (CSAC) addresses a warning.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), despite the recommendations of the Higher Audiovisual and Communication Council (CSAC), deputies, press attachés and members of political cabinets continue to exercise the profession of journalist at the same time, deplores high authority.

The CSAC therefore calls on these colleagues and their media to show responsibility. This is an ethical issue, according to its president Tito Ndombi, who declares: "  We are calling to order because, already before the elections, during the electoral campaign, we made a recommendation asking all the journalists who had entered politics, who had become candidates, to take leave of the profession because we believe that their political engagement called into question the impartiality and the independence of the journalist  ”.

"  Some respected, but others even elected officials continued to act as journalists at the same time that they were already national deputies , adds Tito Ndombi. It goes beyond that because we made all of these recommendations in due time. We asked all of them who had become press officers in the cabinets to leave the information work to the editorial level. Because you will see that most of the people who are press officers, who are in charge of communications, they continue to do news reports, they continue to present newspapers. There is a conflict of interest and as soon as there is a conflict of interest, an ethical problem arises  ”.
