May 10, 2020 Europe - according to AFP counts - remains the continent most affected by the coronavirus, with 1,708,648 infected and 155,074 dead.

The number of daily deaths caused by the coronavirus in Spain continues to decline : according to data released today by Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, 143 people have died in the country in the last 24 hours, equal to a drop of more than 20% compared to the 179 deaths in the previous 24 hours and the lowest level ever recorded since 18 March.

The total of deaths in Spain, reports the newspaper El Pais, thus passes to 26,621, compared to 224,390. 136,166 have healed so far.

In Bulgaria in the last 24 hours 44 new cases of coronavirus have been registered (7 in the capital Sofia, 17 hospitalized). The total balance of infections thus rises to 1,955. As the authorities report, there are two new deaths, for a total of 90 victims. Three other cases of contagion have emerged among medical health personnel, whose balance rises to 209. A total of 389 patients are hospitalized, 56 of them in intensive care.

The UK , with 31,662 deaths has the number of victims from the upper coronavirus in Europe.

The British government will launch a Covid-19 alert system to track down the virus, according to Prime Minister Boris Johnson today as reported by the BBC. The system will rank the threat level from the coronavirus on a scale of one to five and will be adjusted based on the data. Boris Johnson is expected to give a speech on TV to update the British on the progress of the lockdown measures.

The BBC anticipates that the Prime Minister should unveil a new slogan, asking the population to "stay alert, check the virus, save lives."

It is not expected to provide exact dates on when restrictions - first announced on March 23 - could change.

The new system will only apply to England, but the government is working with decentralized administrations that will develop their own. The system - with warnings ranging from green (level one) to red (level five) - will be similar to that used to keep the public informed of the level of terrorist threat, according to the broadcaster. The alert tool - which will be managed by a new "joint biosafety center" - will also reflect the threat of the virus in different parts of the country, which means that the threat level in one city could differ quite widely from another.
