The main park in the city of Lille, that of the Citadel, will reopen on Monday, due to a prefectoral derogation. It will be possible to do walking, jogging, athletics and cycling.

The largest and main park in Lille, that of the Citadel, will reopen Monday, announced Saturday in a press release the town hall which obtained a prefectoral exemption, the Hauts-de-France region being classified red due to circulation of the coronavirus.

"Aware of the need for many Lille residents, after two months of confinement, to find a place of breathing and nature", the mayor Martine Aubry (PS) asked for an exemption for the Citadel - Bois de Boulogne.

Aubry calls for the "responsibility" of the people of Lille

The prefect of the North granted it "for strict uses of walking and sport: walking, jogging, athletics, cycling, to the exclusion of any installation on public spaces such as lawns or edges of Deûle."

The Hauts-de-France region is classified red, the opening of parks and gardens is normally prohibited. "I count on everyone's responsibility to respect customs and 'barrier' gestures, mainly physical distance (…) to avoid having to go back," added the councilor, candidate for a 4th term.
