In mid-April, the Elderly Committee called a press conference to present new measures to reduce the spread of the corona virus within Uppsala's elderly care. By then, five residents had received the infection in their premises and ten people had died in covid-19.

"We do everything we can to protect our elderly," said Caroline Hoffstedt.

Three weeks later, three more homes have ongoing infections and 19 people have died in covid-19. Of the municipality's 36 elderly homes, municipal and private, a total of eleven have suffered coronas, according to Uppsala's elderly management.

- It is deeply regrettable and shows that the measures we have put in place have not been sufficient. We need to do more, we can't sit back, Caroline Hoffstedt says now.

"A failure"

- Any case where a person dies is a failure, to me. It is not just a figure in the statistics but a loved one to a relative.

How was it like this?

- It is too early today to draw conclusions about the causes of how the infection has entered our homes.

Is any of your measures helpful?

- It is difficult to evaluate in this situation.

In the clip above Caroline Hoffstedt tells more about how they should try to reduce the spread of infection.
