The repercussions of the Corona virus still surround Egyptians during the holy month of Ramadan, as not only were the absence of social customs and traditions, but its negative economic effects also appeared.

On the one hand, some professions related to Ramadan have declined, such as making lanterns, in which workers and merchants are waiting throughout the year to be able to sell during the month of Ramadan.

Egyptian purchases of Ramadan supplies also declined, especially yamish (dried fruits that were associated with Ramadan consumption such as dates, figs, raisins, etc.) and Ramadan sweets, which merchants were hoping to sell at least last year’s stocks.

Egyptians say they have refrained from buying yamesh in the same quantities as previous years, fearing the increase in the period of embargoes and closings due to the Corona virus, and thus their further economic vulnerability, so most of them chose to abandon the welfare of Ramadan customs and traditions, in exchange for precaution of future risks.

Citizens explained that the real crisis is related to the lack of liquidity in their hands due to the decline in economic activity in general, so they were forced to reduce their Ramadan purchases.

Some of them said that before Corona they were keen to buy all the needs of Ramadan to make the family happy, especially children, despite the high prices, but they were bearing this with a wide chest, but now after the Corona crisis they had to buy only the necessary needs, and give away the luxuries and entertainment.
