Podemos formed a coalition with the PSOE so that many of its social demands could be fulfilled in the course of one or even two legislatures. However, the crisis unleashed by the coronavirus pandemic has led to a scenario where the purple people have pressed to push them forward and put them into action ahead of schedule: moratoriums on mortgages, rental aid, a minimum vital income ... Forged measures together with the PSOE ministers, but which Pablo Iglesias attributes to the presence of Podemos in the Executive.

"In all humility, with all the mistakes that we have made and that we will continue to make in the Government, our role in managing this crisis is helping this time to face the economic and social crisis differently than 2008," he explained. Churches during the State Citizen Council of Podemos, the party's highest leadership body, held electronically.

The purple leader has broken down in his speech all the measures that he considers bear the stamp of his party: the prohibition of companies from firing because of the Covid-19; the Erte; curbing evictions, aid and moratoriums on rents and mortgages; a ban on cutting basic supplies to households; the minimum vital income ... Matter the latter on which he said he felt "modestly satisfied with having succeeded in accelerating its implementation".

In this sense, Iglesias will propose, together with the Minister of Employment and Social Affairs of Italy (5-star movement), Nunzia Catalfo , and the Minister of Employment, Solidarity and Social Security of Portugal (Portuguese Socialist Party), Ana Mendes , the creation of a Europe or Minimum Income . His idea is that it is a proposal adapted to the level and way of life of each country, and would harmonize with the income systems that they already have.

The PP, outside the Constitution

The entry into the Government was a double-edged sword for the party, since on the one hand it filled his desire to be able to make useful politics, but at the same time he ran the risk of defrauding and distancing himself from the social groups to which he intended to give voice. That is why Iglesias reiterates that his site is next to "health workers, transporters, domestic workers, cashiers, restockers, unions, the PAH, the tenants union, the self-employed ...". It seeks to keep that bond alive, aware that many decisions do not meet expectations, what was promised or do not even come.

"Those of us in the government have to continue working so that the way out of the crisis is done by protecting the people and putting the general interest ahead, which is the interest of Spain," he said. It should be remembered that the five Podemos ministers have intense debates and confrontations with the PSOE ministers over the application and demand for the authorship of practically each one of the measures that are approved.

Iglesias places Podemos in the defense of that general interest, and outside of it, Vox and even the PP. "Each should not choose his role, especially the PP. If he is in a corner with Vox or in the consensus. Hopefully the PP abandons Vox and the Constitution returns." The metamorphosis of the Podemos leader is evident: of promising to "break" with the Transitional regime and "open the padlock of '78" to defend the Constitution as the basis for articulating consensus and putting Pablo Casado's party outside of it.

Ask your mobilization

The appointment has served for Iglesias to expose to his address the general lines of work, that is, the message and the political position to occupy: harshness without contempt against Vox, and also the PP if it continues without supporting the approaches of the Government; measured thanks to Citizens, now "civilized right", for supporting the extension of the state of alarm ..., but with whom he refuses to strengthen further ties and does not consider that he is a priority partner of the Government. "Outstretched hand" to consensus but within the margin configured by the coalition government. It is the line maintained by Pedro Sánchez with the state of alarm: asking for consensus on the measures that Moncloa dictates.

To support the Podemos strategy, Iglesias has called for the mobilization of his own, aware that his party has a great command of communication and message on social networks. Mobilization for the message to stall and counter on the right. "The role of the people of Podemos is fundamental, it is key that they continue to be mobilized in social networks, in the solidarity groups of the neighborhoods, in the work groups .... Working to push together with our people the possibility of making reality those social consensuses that reinforce the public and the elements that build us as a society because they are what unite us and take care of all of us "

Ask for a tax from the richest

In his speech before the State Citizen Council, Pablo Iglesias has launched a clear commitment to implement a Covid rate for the richest, within the framework of the reconstruction task that will follow the pandemic. His message, to recipients like Amancio Ortega - whom he has not mentioned but has been understood - is to stop donating and pay more taxes. "It is a consensus not only in Spain but in Europe that instruments such as a reconstruction tax are necessary to allow those who have the most to shoulder their shoulders, to be in solidarity, so that the reconstruction task is carried out and to exercise the solidarity with the country as it is done in serious countries, which is contributing resources to the public coffers ".
