The young Moataz confirmed the arrest report on his Facebook page, where he wrote a distress leaflet saying that he had been arrested, and that there was an attempt to deport him from Ukraine, asking for help to prevent this, then he wrote another post saying that he was "in danger".

Against this background, human rights activists and activists launched a campaign on social media sites calling on the Ukrainian authorities not to extradite Mu'taz Muhammad to Egypt, and to stop his deportation or allow him to travel to a country other than Egypt, expressing their fear of being persecuted if extradited.

It is noteworthy that the young Moataz Mohamed from Fayoum governorate, has taught at the College of Dentistry in Poltava since 2015, and has been legally resident there, and is married to a Ukrainian woman, and he was previously arrested in Egypt and subjected to severe torture - according to activists and human rights activists - before he was released and left the country.

Muhammad's arrest came hours after the Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister met with the Egyptian ambassador in Kiev, during which they discussed the issue of a Ukrainian prisoner who is in Egypt, prompting observers to expect that Muhammad's extradition will be part of a prisoner exchange process between the two countries.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said Thursday, "Yevhin Yinin, Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine, discussed with Egyptian Ambassador to Ukraine Hossam El-Din Ali, cooperation in the context of guaranteeing the rights and interests of the citizens of the two countries."

The meeting discussed the case of a Ukrainian citizen, Edward Tchikush, who was sentenced to 25 years in prison in Egypt, and ways to return him to Ukraine.

Al-Attar pointed out that the Ukrainian authorities must evoke in this context what is known to everyone about the "methodology of torture in Egyptian prisons, and the abuse of detainees under the tragic circumstances witnessed by international, local and international human rights reports that condemned the Egyptian authorities' use of torture on a large scale."

Al-Attar also pointed out that international treaties and covenants signed by Ukraine and Egypt prevent any person from being deported to a country where their lives are likely to be endangered, calling on human rights institutions and everyone to work to prevent Muhammad's deportation and ensure his release.
