It was at the end of February that a ship dropped 13 tons of pellets off Denmark's southern coast. Now, the plastic has started to flow ashore along the west coast, which, among other things, Dagens Nyheter reported on.

Emil Olofsson and Tomas Eriksson from the Pelagiska organization were the first to notice the event. The duo work full time with plastic remediation in Tanum municipality and saw plastic emissions when they were at Otterö, southeast of Grabbestad. It is unclear if the plastic spill is hazardous to the environment, but Emil Olofsson believes it will have consequences.

- There is a risk that small birds get into this and it does not feel good. It is also important to point out that these pellets are the raw material from which the plastic is made, which is alarming, he says.

Designated vessel

Already in March, the plastic was seen in the sea. This is stated by Liv-Marit Hansen at the Oslo Fjord Outdoor Council's Department of Nature and Environment for DN. She has worked on mapping the emission. As they have received reports from more places. The survey confirms that the emissions come from a specific vessel.

- Not all investigations have been completed, but everything is indicative, Hansen tells DN.

That the emission can be linked to the vessel, Emil Olofsson looks positive.

- The only positive thing about the emission is that it is possible to identify those responsible. Usually there are lots of plastic on the beaches where it is not possible to find those responsible, he says.
