This is one of the main measures imposed by the city of Rennes for the resumption of school. From May 14, students in the large section of kindergarten, CP and CM2 in Rennes schools must eat in the canteen. This measure is presented as a means of "limiting any crossover between groups", as the health protocol dictated by the French Ministry of Education wants to fight against the coronavirus epidemic.

The city specifies that the families preserve the freedom to provide a picnic to their children but that these last will have to remain at the school during the time of the lunch. "A massive outing at noon is not possible," said Mayor Nathalie Appéré in a press release. Until June 2, school meals will be free for all children. It will remain so after this date for families in the first three price bands.

"Everything is done to protect health"

In Rennes, the weeks will be divided in two to accommodate a maximum of 15 children in primary and 10 children in kindergarten. "We can say to parents who choose to put their children in school: everything is done to protect the health of children, teachers and school staff," said the city. After the main sections, CP and CM2, CE1, CE2 and CM1 will resume school on May 18. The classes of small and medium section of kindergarten will wait until May 25.

The cleaning and disinfection of school premises will be carried out several times a day by the municipal services. All the information concerning the reopening of the schools has been published on the city's website, to be found here.
