Andhra Pradesh state police say at least five people have died, 70 people are in an unconscious state in a nearby hospital, and between 200 and 500 people are receiving treatment overall. 

At least five people have died and hundreds have been hospitalized after a gas leak at a chemical plant in southeast India, police said on Thursday.

"We can confirm at this point that five people have died. At least 70 people are in an unconscious state in a nearby hospital, and overall, between 200 and 500 people are receiving care," said Swaroop Rani, a police officer in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh state.
