Arnaud Schwartz, president of France Nature Environnement, calls to modify our consumption habits in order to face the ecological crisis facing our planet. During these eight weeks of confinement, he believes, "most people have been able to think about the hectic pace that we normally adopt".

"Everyone has to get started." In the midst of a coronavirus pandemic, voices are rising to call for reflection on a "post-world" more aware of the environmental issues facing our planet. "The time has come, insisted Nicolas Hulot, former Minister of Ecology, in a column published on Thursday. If nothing changes, we risk being faced with repeated crises, be they pandemics, heat waves, natural disasters, "he warns. "The situation could escape us," agrees Arnaud Schwartz.

"Consumption-consolation" is no longer in tune with the times "

During these eight weeks of confinement, he believes, "most people have been able to think about the hectic pace that we normally adopt". He calls for keeping the new habits acquired, in particular to no longer resort to "superfluous" activities set aside in confined France. "We have a big problem: we are two and a half planets a year in terms of ecological footprint. We have to come back to less than one planet," he said, adding: "Consumption -consolation 'is no longer in tune with the times. "

Arnaud Schwartz welcomes certain positions of the government which "are going in the right direction", in particular the quid pro quo requested from Air France before granting it loans and the end of refusal opposed to Medef when it demanded a moratorium on the ecological standards imposed on companies . "Changes can come from the business world, but politicians also have responsibilities to take," he said. "We need to continue in this direction."
