The motorist was drunk

The 33-year-old motorist, arrested and taken into police custody, was driving drunk, without a license and without an exit certificate. His car was spotted by the gendarmerie driving at high speed, Monday around 10:30 p.m. in Saône, near Besançon, before hitting a roundabout.

After a first attempt to escape, "the driver pretended to stop and comply, before reversing when the gendarmes approached and crashing into their vehicle", injuring the soldier, according to the gendarmerie. The 30-year-old was eventually immobilized, but rebelled, injuring the second constable, added the same source.

A "clear upsurge" in speeding since confinement

The Doubs gendarmerie also notes "a marked increase in speeding (over 50 km / h of the maximum authorized speed)". "Containment has considerably reduced traffic on the roads and some motorists no longer respect speed limits, including on secondary axes," she noted. Operations to combat road insecurity, accompanied by awareness-raising and prevention operations have been carried out by the gendarmerie since Monday.
