The Nantes tramway during the coronavirus health crisis - S. Salom Gomis / SIPA

  • The wearing of the mask, compulsory in transport, will be "recommended" in public spaces.
  • If the markets and gardens should reopen quickly, it will still have to wait for museums, swimming pools or libraries.

The phrase often comes up: life after May 11 will not be quite the same as before. But what will our daily life look like at the time of deconfinement in Nantes? This Wednesday, after speaking on the situation of schools, the mayor (PS) Johanna Rolland unveiled the first measures which will apply in the coming days. What there is to know.

Wearing the "recommended" mask

If it will be necessary to be very vigilant with respect to the barrier gestures, the wearing of the mask will be "recommended" in public space but not compulsory in Nantes (unlike other cities), except in public transport. To do this, the distribution of washable masks ordered by the city has started: according to the town hall, 70% of them are being delivered by post. A distribution will be organized from May 15 in six gymnasiums of the city for the inhabitants who would have fallen between the cracks of the net, because not registered on the file of the tax of lodging. Masks for children will also be available for families who wish.

Public transport still reduced

Until then in white hours, the TAN transport network will go into “yellow day” from May 11, then 90% at the end of May. In June, the level of service will return to normal, hopes TAN. In the trains, one seat out of two will be neutralized and passengers will have access to hydroalcoholic gel dispensers. On the platforms, teams will be present to regulate the flows in the 17 busiest stations. This should not prevent a difficult application of the rules of social distancing in the trains ... "People who can must continue to telework, estimates Johanna Rolland. It is recommended to avoid peak hours by opting for staggered working hours as much as possible. "

Walking and cycling encouraged

In the coming weeks, walking and cycling will therefore be encouraged. Some temporary cycle paths are also being installed, such as on the Quai de la Fosse or along the Anne-de-Bretagne bridge. The Saint-Mihiel bridge will be completely closed to cars to give priority to cyclists. A boost that will also be financial: the Bicloo subscription will go at half price, aid of 50 euros will be paid to those who want to repair their bicycle (in addition to that of the State). It will go up to 200 euros for those who wish to acquire an electric bike. Arrangements are also provided for pedestrians, near schools or shopping centers.

Gardens reopen, but museums don't

If the department remains “green”, the parks and gardens of Nantes will be accessible again from May 13 (except play areas), but it will be necessary to respect a traffic direction! Food markets will continue to reopen, with the return of the Little Holland market scheduled for June 6. However, other outings will be limited: the reopening of the majority of museums is not envisaged before the end of June. And if a “drive” loan system will be set up for certain media libraries, the physical opening will not take place before July. Gyms and swimming pools will also remain closed until further notice, as will the Water Mirror or the Island Machines. We do not yet know if we will be able to walk on Monday along the banks of the Erdre and Loire.
