Protect old names, adaptation to Statistics Sweden and more citizen influence. There are some discussion points that are expected to come up when the City Council decides on Uppsala's subdivision.

You have to go back to 1982 to find the date when Uppsala Municipality last decided on the neighborhoods name. Since then, both Bärbyleden and Rosendal have been added. And Uppsala has grown by almost 100,000 inhabitants.

The Minority Board, with the support of the Left Party, has put forward the proposal that will be on the agenda at the next meeting in May.

- This by name is sensitive. We will not remove any historical names, but they will remain, but we will ensure that statistical areas fall in line with the districts, says Erik Pelling (S), chairman of the local council.

What future neighborhood do you live in?

The proposal has received criticism from parts of the opposition, which, among other things, believes that one should not merge districts.

- We also feel that we have not taken into account the prevalent place names that exist and which have a very strong support in the Cultural Heritage Act, says moderate municipal council Therez Almerfors.

Here you can click around on the municipality's map with suggestions for new neighborhood names - and check out which district you will be living in in the future. The proposal is expected to be announced in May.
